Every venue, café, pool and bar in Icebreaker was chosen by someone who actually lives here. Not scraped from a tourism algorithm. You'll find surprisingly few tourist traps in this tourist app.
"Skúbb. Licorice and salt ice cream that will haunt you. The other ice cream places are fine. This one isn't fine. It's the one."
Vinur, on dessert
An AI travel buddy with the instincts of a Reykjavík local who has seen every tourist mistake already. Ask anything. He'll tell you the truth, including the parts you didn't ask for.
"Reynisfjara kills tourists every year. The waves come up the beach faster than you can run. Stay well back. We are not exaggerating."
Vinur, on safety
Real-time road conditions, weather, aurora forecasts, geofenced warnings at the places that actually kill people. No guilt-tripping. No upselling. Just the information.
"A taxi from the airport is 20,000 kr. The Flybus is 4,000 kr. It's your money, your choice."
Vinur, on transport
Curated happy hours, real discounts at real restaurants, an eSIM that actually works, partner tours we'd actually recommend to a friend. Nothing buried in a paywall, nothing pretending to be a deal that isn't.
"Buying bottled water is like bringing a sandwich to a Michelin restaurant. Just get a reusable bottle and fill it up whenever and wherever you see a faucet."
Vinur, on tap water
Credible, slightly grumpy, frequently funny, mostly honest and usually right. Someone you'd actually want a beer with.
Where should I get drunk?
Prikið to start. Locals, fair prices, late vibe. Then Kaffibarinn or Röntgen if you want a DJ. Beer is usually 1,400 ISK or more; pace yourself or your wallet will pace you.
📍 Happy hours running now
is the glacier safe to walk on
No. Not without a guide.
The edge of a glacier often looks solid. It isn't. There are crevasses under the snow you can't see. People die on these every year, including careful tourists. Sólheimajökull and Skaftafell are set up for guided walks. Book one.

You only live once, which is one reason we built handrails at Gullfoss. What did you actually want to know?
Humans in Reykjavík who got tired of watching tourists make the same expensive mistakes.

Founder
Started this because tourists kept making the same expensive mistakes. Doesn't code. That's what Steinar is for.

Developer
Writes the code. Translates "make it feel cosier" into working software. Has not yet been driven to drink.

Product
Product designer with a Spotify, Nespresso and IKEA résumé that's frankly insulting to the rest of us. Shapes the screens, the flows, the small moments tourists won't notice are intentional.

Content
Gen Z. Helps us stay relevant. Shoots the videos, takes the photos, and patiently explains TikTok to the rest of us.

Design
One of Iceland's best-known cartoonists. Drew the look, sketched every icon, set the comic tone. Every illustration in the app is his.

Vibe manager
Manages Hugleikur, which technically qualifies her to manage anyone. Vibes have improved measurably since she joined.
"This is basically the only app you'd need in Iceland."
A friend of a friend, at a house party, when we were showing it to him.
